How to prepare for a wedding reading

prepare for a wedding reading

It's interesting:
"Henry told me he's had a little upgrade in time for his wedding night. ... Gillian Simon's wedding has been better attended than this year's Liberal ..."

Before your wedding, meet with your pastor and selected church members to decide on which readings you and your fiance want to use during the wedding. The readings you choose should best reflect what your views are on marriage. In addition to the traditional Bible readings, you can include other quotes, such as family proverbs or statements from well-known poets. Above all, be sure the readings you choose are not so long that they take up too much time at the wedding.

Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

If it's a religious ceremony, use one Scripture from the Old Testament and one from the New Testament. For example, if you view your marriage as a covenant before God, use the story of Isaac and Rebekah in Genesis 24. Or if you view your marriage as a model of God's love for humanity, use 1 Corinthians 13.

    • 2

Choose a reading that best describes your love for your fiance. For example, if you know your fiance likes romantic poems, then research different poets, such as Walt Whitman, Lord Byron, George Eliot and Anne Bradstreet, and choose a poem that would work for the wedding.

If there are writers in your family, ask them to create a wedding reading for you. Mention specific things or quotes that you want in the reading, but also allow them to be creative with the readings.
