Popular Gifts For Dads

Give Dad the gift he really wants.

Chances are good that your dad really doesn't want a new tie for his birthday or as a holiday gift. Socks and a new dress shirt probably aren't top on his list either. When shopping for your father, give him a gift that appeals to his inner child.

Bar Gift

The next time you visit with your dad, check out his home bar (if he has one) to get gift ideas. He might need a few extra bottles of wine to fill his wine rack, a bottle of his favorite scotch, a martini shaker or initial-engraved crystal bar glasses.

Books

When shopping for your dad at the bookstore, consider his hobbies and interests. If he is an Angels' fan, get him Robert Goldman's Once they were Angels. For the history buff, pick up Team of Rivals by Doris Kearns Goodwin.

Cooking

If your dad loves cooking or spending time at the barbecue, get him a cooking apron, barbecue supplies or some gourmet spices or barbecue sauces. Perhaps he'd like a new copper-bottomed skillet or a set of chef's knives.

Digital Frame

Fill a digital frame with your dad's favorite family photographs, including his children and grandchildren. Don't forget to include photographs of his beloved pet. Select a frame that will go well in his office.

Homemade

Give your dad a homemade gift: something he can't buy in the store. Maybe it's a batch of his favorite homemade cookies, or a jeans quilt that he can take along on his fishing trips.

Man Cave

Sneak into Dad's man cave (if he has one) to see what it needs. Perhaps it can use a dartboard or a new recliner.

Music

Bring more music into your father's life by giving him collections featuring the hits from his favorite groups. Get him a gift card to purchase additional music downloads.

Sporting

Sporting equipment is always a hit. Depending on his interests, the gift might be new golfing gloves, a tackle box, running shoes or a bike rack. Instead of equipment, give him a certificate for a round of golf, treat him to some fly-fishing lessons or take him deep-sea fishing.

Television

It doesn't matter how big your dad's television is; chance are, he wants a bigger one. If it's beyond your budget, get your siblings to go in on the gift. Alternatively, instead of a television, get Dad a new and improved television remote.

Tools

Power tools are always a cool gift for Dad. Before you go shopping, check out what he owns so you don't give him something he already has. Maybe one of his power tools needs an upgrade, or maybe he needs help organizing his tool shelf.

Video Game

For the dad who is a gamer, get him the video game he has been wanting, or upgrade his current video gaming device.
