Hook Up Surround Sound To An Emerson Tv

Hook Up Surround Sound to an Emerson TV

Emerson has been producing quality, affordable televisions since 1947, along with a variety of other electronics products. Keeping up with the technology of the times, Emerson now offers a line of LCD HDTVs. While those TVs feature a digital audio output to connect directly to a surround-sound home theater system, surround sound can still be used with older Emerson TVs as well, though it will mean routing the audio from another video component, such as a cable/satellite set-top receiver box or DVD/Blu-ray player.

Instructions

1. Determine the audio output capabilities of your Emerson TV. If it is a newer LCD model, it will have a coaxial audio output, which delivers multichannel sound to a stereo receiver. Older models will not have this output, and the receiver must be connected to another source component.

2. Connect the TV to the various audio/video components (such as set-top box, DVD player), using the inputs available with your particular TV--HDMI or component video for LCD TVs or coaxial, composite or S-Video for older models.

3. Determine the type(s) of digital audio cables to purchase and use based on the inputs available on your surround-sound stereo receiver, which should be at least one or both the coaxial and optical digital audio (known as TOSLINK, which is short for Toshiba-Link).

4. Connect the selected audio cable from its output on the Emerson TV (if available) or the attached video component(s) to the matching input(s) on the surround-sound receiver. You may choose to route the cables from those components even if your TV has the digital audio output to make for a more direct link from the source.

5. Set the surround-sound receiver to the appropriate input setting to access the audio from the TV or chosen video source.
