Fix The Temperature Control On A Single Handle Faucet

The shower temperature limit can be adjusted through the handle.

Single handle faucets control the temperature of the water when the handle is turned from left to right. Inside of the faucet is a temperature limiter. This limiter prevents scalding by keeping the water from getting too hot. This safety feature is included in most single handle faucets today. It is possible to adjust the water temperature if the water does not get hot enough, or if the water is scalding you when it comes out of the faucet.

Instructions

1. Turn on the faucet so that it is in the middle, or equal hot and cold water. Let it run for a few seconds.

2. Turn the faucet handle to the hottest position. Catch a bit of the water in a mug.

3. Place a thermometer into the mug. The water should be between 110 and 120 degrees.

4. Pry off the cap of the faucet and remove the screw holding it in place.

5. Turn the limiter behind the handle counterclockwise to increase the water temperature or clockwise to decrease it. Check your specific faucet instruction manual to find how much each turn of the limiter increases or decreases the temperature. For most faucets it is 6 degrees.

6. Put the handle back on the unit and test the water again.
