Cover Window Shades With Fabric

Custom window treatments can break your decorating budget, but it's cost efficient to cover window shades with fabric. You'll get a custom designer look for a fraction of the cost.

Instructions

1. Unroll the shade and measure its full width and its length from the bottom to within 2 inches of the roller. Add 2 inches to the width and length measurements.

2. Cut a piece of fabric the same as the shade's length and width measurements.

3. Lay the shade right side up on your work surface. Spray it with adhesive.

4. Carefully cover the shade with fabric. Place the top of the fabric 2 inches from the roller. Leave a 1-inch overhang on both sides and at the bottom of the shade. Smooth the fabric over the shade.

5. Turn the shade over. Apply a bead of glue to the overhanging fabric and fold to the back of the shade. Press down securely.

6. Apply decorative trim or embellishments. Limit your embellishing to the bottom few inches of the shade so it continues to roll up as it was intended to do.

7. Lay the unrolled shade flat and allow the glue to dry for 12 to 24 hours before re-installing in the window.
