Ge simon xt versions and sirens

GE Simon XT (Versions and sirens)

Hi, I am considering buying a GE Simon XT. I have some questions about it and have done some searching but really can't find the answers. Are there different versions of it and if so does it matter which I buy? I will want to connect a loud an external siren to it. Is this possible? And if so: Easily done for a newbie? Which siren should I buy (what is compatible)? Are wireless sirens an option? Thanks! Here's the manufacturer's site with all the specs and data sheets: Simon XT Few months back i had a terrible experience with this panel. Bought 1 Simon XT unit @ homestoretechnology.com and they refuse to replace or repair within a year.. and send me to manufacturers warranty Hope this helps for those looking for a trustable supplier / alarm panel. Based on the video, it appears as though the fault may be with the alarm panel itself. Please contact GE technical support at 888-437-3287 and/or warranty questions. The Simon XT comes with a full year manufacturers warranty. Please feel free to contact us if you have any additional questions. Sincerely, Vlad Home Technology Store 866-523-2146 The company I work for used to install the Simon XT, so I have a limited knowledge of it but am by no means an expert. We now install DSC and I find it too be a much better system, but that's besides the point, on too your questions. There are different versions of it, only two that I've seen, the newer version looks more high tech, it's all white with no door on the buttons. There is an older model with a door that covers most of the buttons. I've only installed the newer version. It does have an output that you can use for a siren or to trigger just about anything else you want. I've only used a GE siren that comes with the Concord system but I would be that most sirens that hook up in a similar way, ie with the positive and negative wires. The Simon does not have a compatible wireless siren's but the DSC Impassa does, and that is part of the reason that I believe it's superior. The DSC just has more options to accommodate more situations with zone types. For example, the Impassa has a Day Zone option. You can arm a safe or even a liquor cabinet and if the alarm is armed, it acts like a normal instant zone, but if the alarm is off, it simply sets off a local alarm, and not the full siren. Go back and read some of the earlier posts on the new XT touchscreen...the one with the door that covers most of the buttons is ancient now XT has 2 outputs, not 1... You can use a Zwave RF siren with the XT (need Alarm.Com for this option)... There are a number of new zone types with the newer versions of the XT, including the zone type described above (Day Zone) Hi- I just purchased a Simon XT w/ GSM module from Safemart to secure a barn on my property in Delaware. The system is being powered by a solar panel array and AGM battery with a 12v DC to 120 VAC power inverter. The stock Simon XT 120 VAC to 9 VAC transformer is plugged into the inverter. As you can see, this a bit of a round-about way to get from 12v DC power to 9 VAC power with all kinds of conversion losses in the middle. I have to think the Simon XT panel is also internally rectifying the 9 VAC power to DC to run the electronics. My question is...the solar controller is capable of outputting 9v DC power. Does the Simon XT use a simple diode bridge rectifier? Is it possible to supply 9v DC power to the Simon XT panel? Would the DC power just flow through the rectifier, or cause problems? Thanks.
