Make A Weight Vest

A weight vest can add serious firepower to your workout

Everyone wants to get the most out of their workout and some may try different things to enhance their workout. One technique is the weight vest. The more weight you carry on your body, the more calories you will burn. Weight vests and their related exercises can be very helpful to an exercise routine, but this additional equipment can be costly as well. You can make your own weight vest to add extra burn to your exercise routine.

Instructions

1. Cut a small opening at the top of the lining in the back of the vest. Make the opening no more than about five inches long, and it should be a slit rather than a hole.

2. Fill two Ziploc bags with chosen weight material (sand, pellets and or rocks). These bags should not be bulging full of the materials; they should be flexible.

3. Insert the two weighted bags into the hole at the top of the vest. Leave the hole open for the time being in case you need to add more weight later.

4. Fill the other two Ziploc bags with modeling clay. As before, the bags should not be bulging and should still be flexible. You can roll the clay into balls or tubes as you wish.

5. Place a modeling clay bag in each front pocket of the vest. Mold the clay to fit in the pockets of the vest. If you use all of the modeling clay, there will be two pounds of modeling clay plus the weight of the rocks or pellets.

6. Try the vest on. If there is not enough weight in the vest, then you may want to add more rocks or more modeling clay bags to the vest. Do not make the vest so heavy that it interferes with your movements. Generally, these vests should weigh between two and ten pounds.

7. Sew up all the openings in the vest. Sew up the slit in the top of the vest using a needle and thread. Then, sew the pockets holding the modeling clay bags closed as well to prevent your weight materials from falling out of the vest while you are working out.

Tips Warnings

Hunting vests are more durable and will last longer for this exercise-enhancement tool.

Consult a physician before you begin any weightlifting routine.
