Correct way to wear wedding bands

Correct way to wear wedding bands

It's interesting:
"Even world class comics know what it's like to die on stage, and a wedding ... Nobody wants the soundtrack of their wedding night to be a chorus of loud groans."

Although some nervous brides have offered the wrong hand and some nervous grooms have placed their bride's wedding band on the wrong finger during their wedding ceremony, most people know that the wedding ring is worn on the "ring" finger--the finger next to the pinkie, on the left hand. Tradition dictates that the wedding bands be worn a certain way- however, the correct way is the arrangement the bride chooses for herself.

  1. Traditional

    • Slipping the wedding band on first and the engagement ring atop the wedding band is the traditional way to wear your wedding ring set. Wearing your marriage band "closest to your heart" and "protected" by your engagement ring is a common reason given for this arrangement. In addition, during the marriage vows, the groom usually places the wedding band on the empty ring finger, so naturally the engagement ring is placed on last. Most ring sets from jewelers are designed to be worn in this fashion.

    Comfortable

    • Wear your wedding bands in the way you feel most comfortable with if you do not like the "traditional" way. Place your marriage band atop your engagement ring if that better suits your ring set- this arrangement can represent your journey from engagement to marriage. Alternatively, you do not have to wear your engagement ring on your left hand or at all. You may choose to wear only your wedding band for a simpler look or because your engagement ring and wedding band do not go together. Some brides only wear their engagement ring for special or formal occasions, other brides wear their engagement ring on their right hand and some brides store their engagement ring in a jewelry box for safe keeping.
