Lds wedding reception ideas

It's interesting:
"Henry told me he's had a little upgrade in time for his wedding night. ... Gillian Simon's wedding has been better attended than this year's Liberal ..."

Latter-Day Saint (LDS) receptions can range in formality and location just like weddings for other faiths. Receptions can be held at outdoor venues such as a beach or park, at a formal hall or ballroom or at the temple in which you are planning to get married. The reception need not be extravagant, but it can be if you have the funds to make it so.

  1. Formal Receptions

    • A formal LDS reception can include anything from live music to catered four-course meals. You can hold a formal reception at any location you deem necessary, but off church grounds may make non-LDS guests feel more comfortable, especially if you are having a temple marriage in which non-LDS members cannot attend. A ballroom or a public venue such as a library is a beautiful area to hold a reception and will make the bride, groom and guests feel comfortable and at ease. With any formal event the invitation should request formal (but modest) attire to keep in line with LDS traditions.

    Informal Receptions

    • LDS receptions do not have to be formal and can be held at outdoor venues. Outdoor venues can be particularly useful for large LDS weddings. An open venue also offers a great space for the long receiving line that is common for a Mormon reception. Consider a park, beach or pavilion that is close to the temple or chapel. The traditional cake and refreshments can be easily transported. However, if you are hoping for a catered affair consider going buffet or bringing the reception indoors. Most will not expect more than snacks and refreshments at an informal event.

    Afternoon Receptions

    • An afternoon reception can be held right after the wedding ceremony and many LDS temples offer reception areas within the building. Take advantage of the temple you are using for the ceremony and hold the reception there as well, immediately following. A DJ or pre-recorded music can be used for the event and buffet style dining works well for an afternoon reception. Business casual or modest casual dress would be a perfectly acceptable for an afternoon reception.
