Places to go camping in illinois

It's interesting:
"The best man at my own wedding told me that one and it worked - for 15 years anyway, before she left me for someone short, fat and balding, who happened to ..."

Whether you're looking for a place to stop the RV for the night, want a fun campground to pitch a tent, or just need a scenic place to picnic for the day, there are many campgrounds throughout the flat lands of Illinois. State parks can be found all across the state.

  1. Starved Rock

    • Residents of the Chicagoland area often make the hour and a half trek from the city to hike and camp at the surprisingly picturesque Starved Rock State Park. Large, sandstone rock formations offer breathtaking sights of waterfalls and cliff points. A lodge with 72 rooms makes the Starved Rock experience easy and comfortable, but there are also areas for tent camping just outside of the park. Other fun options at Starved Rock include fishing, boating, horseback riding and cross country skiing (during the winter months).

    Mississippi Palisades

    • Located in northwestern Illinois just east of the Mississippi River, the Mississippi Palisades Park is 2,500 acres of trails that were first walked by Native Americans. Limestone caves and steep cliffs can be found throughout the park, making great group photo opportunities. Hikers enjoy the trails, but there is also fishing, hunting, boating and picnic areas for outdoor enthusiasts of all types and ages. Keep an eye out for wildlife like white-tailed deer, red foxes and various species of birds.

    Cache River

    • The landscape of southern Illinois is dramatically stunning compared to the farmlands of the rest of the state. One of the prime examples of this environment is the Cache River State Natural Area in Johnson County. With nearly 15,000 acres, the area has more than a weekend's worth of activities for nature lovers. In addition to hiking trails, there are biking and canoe trails. Fishing is popular at the Cache River, as well as regulated hunting. Birds are prevalent in the swampy area, and bobcats or river otters may also be spotted.
