How to plan marriage vow renewals

plan marriage vow renewals

It's interesting:
"Tom looks great on his wedding day doesn't he? I won't say it's funny to see ... Congratulations to Tom and Susan on their wedding. And since it's election week ..."

A marriage vow renewal is typically performed on or around a wedding anniversary and serves as an occasion for the couple to celebrate their love and renew their commitment to each other. While most vow renewals won't require the extensive planning and spending as the actual wedding, there are still a variety of steps involved in planning the event. To ensure an organized and stress-free day, tackle the planning as you would a wedding- methodically and with joy.

Things You'll Need

  • Calendar
  • Invitations

Instructions

    • 1

Set a date for the renewal vows. This could be on your exact anniversary or on a weekend near the date of your anniversary.

    • 2

Decide where you want to perform the vows. This could be anywhere from a church to a garden to a restaurant. Make the reservations at the appropriate venue once you have selected a location.

    • 3

Write down an approximate head count of the people you want to invite to witness your vows. This number will be important if you are holding a reception with food to follow.

    • 4

Make reservations with a caterer or restaurant to host the reception. You could also choose to host the reception at your own home. If this is the case, compose a menu and a shopping list to create the menu in reference to your expected amount of guests.

    • 5

Book a clergyman, justice of the peace or even a friend to officiate the vow renewal and lead you and your spouse through your vows. Since you are already married the person officiating the ceremony does not need to be certified or a clergymen.

    • 6

Write or choose your new wedding vows and share them with your officiant.

    • 7

Compose and mail invitations approximately six weeks before the event.

    • 8

Decide on decorations, if any, for the ceremony and the reception. This includes centerpieces, table linens and even lighting, such as candles or paper lanterns. You may also opt to carry a bouquet and have your husband wear a boutonniere, as in your actual wedding.
