Whether decorating a table for a fall festival, Christmas gathering or formal wedding, using branches as centerpieces is not only possible, but inexpensive and environmentally friendly. The type of branch that you use will depend on the occasion and the season. For a Christmas centerpiece, pine boughs are a perfect compliment. How you lay the branches on the table will create the centerpiece you desire.

Things You'll Need

  • Wire
  • Twine

Instructions

    • 1

Select the kind of branches that you’-d like to use for your centerpiece. For a softer look with a delicate scent, like for a wedding table, you can use sage. If the centerpiece will include gourds and a cornucopia for fall, choose branches with gold, and red fall leaves.

    • 2

Practice arranging the branches to create the look that you’-d like for your centerpiece. In many cases, this will depend on the shape of the table. For a small, round table you can create a circular centerpiece. For a long, rectangular table you may want one or more rectangular or longer centerpieces.

    • 3

Place the other materials that will make the centerpiece amongst the branches before making them final. Doing this will help you determine if you like the shape of the centerpiece you’-ve designed. Make adjustments as necessary. In some cases, the branches themselves may be the centerpiece, placed in a vase with lights or decorations hanging from them.

Lay the branches in a shape that compliments both the table shape and the other items that will make your centerpiece. For a circular centerpiece, you’-ll want to curve the branches and intertwine the ends together so that they will stay put. You may need to use a little twine or wire to tie some of the ends together. For a rectangular centerpiece, you can lay the branches down the middle of the table or create one or more rectangle centerpieces with them.

Arrange the other items of your centerpiece -- gourds, bows, candles, figures, etc. -- to complement the branches you’-ve now got in place. You've now designed your own centerpiece.
