Wedding todo checklist

Wedding to-do checklist

It's interesting:
"'It was two days before the wedding and I finally sat down to write my toast. Low and ... Everyone at the wedding said it was the best toast they had ever heard.' ..."

You are engaged! Congratulations! Now you make it across the finish line in only 365 days? Planning a wedding involves lots of steps and details, so make a checklist early and stay on top of all of your to-do's. If you do, you will be breathing easy all the way up to your walk down the aisle.

  1. Nine to Twelve Months Before the Wedding

    • Your first step in wedding planning should be to find and finalize all of your wedding vendors. This includes your wedding ceremony and reception location, caterer, cake baker, any live entertainment, like a DJ, rented wedding items like chairs or chair covers, and florist. Also, start planning and booking your honeymoon, including any airline tickets or hotels. Once all of these are set in stone, you can begin to plan the intricacies of your special day.

Six to Nine Months Before the Wedding

    • As your day draws nearer, you will need to work closely with your vendors to plan your menu, floral decorations, and cake flavor and style. Also during this time, select and order your dress, the bridesmaid and groom attire, the rings, guest favors and your invitations. It may also be a good idea to start a song list for the DJ or band to play during the ceremony or reception. Selecting the attire and the rings early will allow plenty of time for any alterations or adjustments to be completed without having to pay extra for expedited, emergency service.

Two to Six Months Before the Wedding

    • During your third phase of planning, finalize all details with each vendor along with your guest list. Once you have the guest list completed, you can plan and finalize seating arrangements at the reception and mail out your invitations. Begin searching for the type of hairstyle you want for your special day and make an appointment with your hairdresser to practice, so on your wedding day, it will be perfect. If you plan on having wedding programs, have them printed now. Also, put together your guest favors if you can, so you do not wind up doing it last minute

One Month to One Week Before the Wedding

    • With only a few short weeks to go before your vows are spoken, be sure to take care of a few important details. Apply for a marriage license, plan your rehearsal dinner, including any restaurant reservations (if needed), confirm all of your reservations from your vendors to your honeymoon hotels and any transportation services. Also, pack your honeymoon bags and purchase your wedding party gifts. It is also a good idea to begin handing out tasks for bridesmaids, groomsmen and family members. Make sure someone is on-hand to clean up and answer any questions from vendors after you and your new spouse leave for your honeymoon. Be sure to have any payments to vendors ready in sealed envelopes and deliver your marriage license to the officiant. Lastly, try to relax. The yearlong ride to the alter is almost finished.
