How to design a wedding program

design a wedding program

It's interesting:
"The happy couple have picked a beautiful sunny day to get married. It’s perhaps a little too hot for me in this suit though, but at least I now know how Chewbacca felt filming those desert scenes."

Most wedding guests come to a wedding knowing nothing more than who is getting married. However, a wedding program will do more than just explain who is getting married and where the service will take place. A good wedding program will inform guests about the wedding party as well as provide an itinerary for the events of the day. A good wedding program will also include a short story about how the couple met and their future plans. Read more to learn design a wedding program.

Things You'll Need

  • wedding party details
  • bibical excerpts or passages (optional)
  • photo of couple
  • itinerary
  • design program
  • computer

Instructions

    • 1

Get all of the important information about the wedding ceremony and reception. This includes the guest list, important addresses and the start time of ceremony. Also locate any special messages, quotes, poems or other materials that will be read during the ceremony. Lastly, get a copy of the itinerary for the day as well as a list of the names of the wedding party, parents of the bride and groom, minister, and all persons scheduled to read a passages or light a candle.

    • 2

Open a design publication software on your computer. Programs such as Microsoft Publisher are perfect for this task. Select what kind of design you want. Choose from a tri-fold brochure style, accordian fold, booklet form style or other option. Open the template for your selection. FInd a photo of the couple where they both look great. Or, for an alternative option, select a nice symbol or drawing of a traditional wedding object or image.

    • 3

Type the couple's names on the top of the cover and the date below their names. Then paste the photo or image below it. If there is a nice single-line quote or phrase you would like to use, place it below the image in quotation marks. On the next page or fold you may wish to provide basic wedding details, such as the location of the ceremony and the names and addresses of the persons associated with the ceremony.

    • 4

Continue to the next page. Write a short story about the couple that explains how they met, future plans, and other symbolic information about the ceremony. This can include the couple's message to their wedding guests. Order the following pages according to your preference and style. You may want to include a page that lists the itinerary for the day as well as the wedding guests. Start with the parents, minister, bridesmaids, groomsmen, flowergirl and ring bearer.

    • 5

Proofread the program to make sure all the names are spelled correctly and the dates and times are correct. Print out a proof copy before sending it to the printer. Check on final time to make sure everything looks exactly the way you want. Your wedding program is now complete!

Tips &- Warnings

  • Only list the ceremony start time, as the wedding ceremony may run behind schedule.
