Wedding cakes have long been a traditional part of wedding celebrations. They can be decorated in a number of ways. Many people use real or fake flowers or even fancy cake toppers. A more recent trend to use a ribbon wrapped around the base of the cake. Some people use fondant to create this look, but it is easy to use a real ribbon.

Things You'll Need

  • Double-sided satin ribbon
  • Wax paper
  • Double-sided tape
  • Iron
  • Buttercream icing

Instructions

      Choose a double-sided satin ribbon that complements the colors of the wedding. Most floral shops should carry this, or you can check your local craft store. If you have chosen ribbon that is not double-sided, see the Tips section.

      Iron the ribbon to make sure that it will lay flat on the cake. Make sure that the ribbon is completely free of wrinkles.

      Wrap the base of the cake with the ribbon, with the backed side facing the cake. Do this a few inches at a time, smoothing it down as you go.

      Use a small dab of buttercream icing at the seam as glue to hold the ribbon in place.

Tips &- Warnings

  • If you have chosen a ribbon that is not double-sided, first attach wax paper to the back of the ribbon by adhering double-sided tape to the ribbon. Trim the wax paper so that it doesn't show from the front. This backing will keep the ribbon from looking greasy.
