Decorating ideas for a gold white reception

Decorating ideas for a gold & white reception

It's interesting:
"I know it's Catherine and Stuart's wedding day, but all week I've only been thinking about what might have been … We were this close to a British ..."

Set the dazzle factor to amazing for your wedding reception by incorporating shades of gold and white in the decorations. Color schemes for weddings traditionally start during the planning process so the colors flow flawlessly from the wedding ceremony into the reception. Help the flow by planning the reception decorations early and choosing items that coordinate with your theme, colors and overall style.

  1. Centerpieces

    • Show off your decorating skills by creating stand-out centerpieces made from white ostrich feathers. Purchase tall white vases with a wide base. The vases will have to be tall enough to tower over guests' heads when they sit for dinner, as you do not want a large arrangement of feathers blocking conversation throughout dinner. Illuminate the bottom of the vases before you begin to arrange feathers by inserting a battery-operated light or tea-light into the bottom. Arrange the feathers, one by one, into the vase until you are happy with the result.

    Chairs and Tables

    • Seat guests in style by draping chairs with white slip covers. The slip-covers will essentially cover the seats to not only protect them from spills but also to add elegance to the look of the room. Go one step further and wrap a gold sash around the center of the back of the chair and tie a bow. The contrasting colors will not only show off your scheme but will give the chairs a little more detail. Like the chairs, double the tablecloths with one white tablecloth on the bottom and a smaller gold tablecloth on top of the white.

    Guest Favors

    • Your appreciation -- and the color scheme -- will be evident to your guests if you incorporate the wedding favors into the dé-cor. Choose either a box or bag to hold the wedding favors for guests to take home. White boxes with the couple's initials on the top in gold can hold favors that range from small in size to large. Insert oddly shaped favors into gold mesh bags with a small note of thanks attached at the top.

    Wedding Cake

    • Detail the wedding cake in white and gold icing. The wedding cake is typically placed in the center of the reception, and it may have a circle of flowers from the wedding around the base. Pull the wedding colors into the cake by having the baker pipe the exterior of the cake with white and gold icing, fondant or sugar details, such as flowers or pearls.

    Reception Lighting

    • A glowing haven of twinkling lights and candles will transform the room. Instead of real candles, prevent a disaster by using battery-operated candles around the room to give a cozy glow. Place twinkling lights in faux trees or along the border of the room. Outdoor weddings, under a large tent, can place candles around the entire perimeter of the reception and drape the lights from the ceiling.
