Definition of party favors

It's interesting:
"There's something special about a church wedding, but most of us here have to admit that we rarely set foot inside a church these days. In fact ..."

Party favors are small gifts that guests receive when they go to a party. Birthday parties, wedding showers, baby showers and Halloween parties are examples of occasions that usually include party favors. There are various types of gifts that can be considered party favors.

  1. Children's Parties

    • Most children's parties have party favors. Some birthday parties have pinatas packed full of candy, treats and favors such as small toys, stickers, noisemakers, blowouts and trinkets. Schools that throw parties for their students often send them home with a small bag of favors such as erasers, pencils, stickers, rulers or other supplies.

    Adult Parties

    • Adult gatherings such as bachelor parties, wedding showers and anniversary dinners often include party favors. These can be coupons, gag gifts, trinkets, key chains or other small items. People of all ages often enjoy party favors. Many adults save party favors to preserve a memory of the party.

    Traditions

    • Many cultures around the world have party favor traditions. For example, in Puerto Rico it is a tradition to place a doll that resembles the bride on a table at a bridal shower. The doll is covered in small charms that are given to the guests. In Malaysia, guests at bridal showers are given a decorated egg. In the Middle East, it is popular to give wedding shower guests a bag of candy.

    Ideas

    • Consider having favors at your next party. Give guests candy or food in a small bag or tin. Distribute key chains, small toys, balloons, beauty products, party hats, picture frames, pens, pencils, candles, thank-you cards, coupons or photos. Give guests mistletoe at Christmas parties or fake eyeballs on Halloween.

    Function

    • There are two primary reasons that party favors are given out during parties. Many people are sentimental and like to have a keepsake to remind them of the special time they just experienced. Hosts also like to make parties and gatherings more enjoyable by handing out party favors or playing games to win larger prizes.
