Use Crown Molding for Window Valences
Window valances are a way to hide a curtain rod or to hide the top of mini blinds used as a window treatment. While window valances on their own are a wonderful window treatment for your d#233;cor, you can step up the style when you add crown molding to them. When you use crown molding for window valances, you take your existing window treatment and make it look more sophisticated. Instantly, it makes your room look more elegant. Window valance crown molding is a project you can do yourself in one weekend.
Instructions
1. Extend your tape measure to determine the length and width of your existing window valances. Wide crown molding may cover your entire window valance, so the molding is all you see after you install it. You could also choose molding that's narrower to bring attention to your existing window valance. When measuring the length, write down the length of the front and both sides.
2. Cut your window valance crown molding to its appropriate length so it fits properly. Use a miter saw to cut a 45-degree angle on the end. This clean angle allows your crown molding to fit flush up against the other pieces so it looks like one seamless section of crown molding.
3. Hold the crown molding pieces up against the window valance so the corners meet flush against each other. Using 4d finish nails, secure the crown molding in position, starting at the corner.
4. Cover the nail holes left behind by your finish nails with wood putty or spackle.
