The Kohler Memoirs faucet has a unique handle installation that is different from most faucets. Instead of a set screw securing the faucet handle to the faucet, there is a screw-on bonnet that holds the handle in place. To take this faucet apart, you must first understand how it is built so you know which steps and procedures to take. You'll find this project takes about a half-hour to complete.
Instructions
1. Shut the water off by closing the home's main water lines at the water heater.
2. Grasp the handle and hold it steady while it is in the off position. Turn the handle bonnet, which is the sleeve under the handle, counterclockwise to unscrew it from the faucet body, and then pull the handle off.
3. Pull the face plate out of the shower wall and over the faucet body to remove it.
4. Remove the screws in the faucet's cartridge retainer, the housing under the face plate, with a regular screwdriver and take the collar out of the faucet. Slide the retainer back and out of the faucet to remove it.
5. Take out the cartridge and components inside of the faucet with a pair of small pliers. The components include the cartridge valve, gaskets and seals inside the faucet.
6. Unscrew the spout from the tub fill pipe by turning it counterclockwise with a strap wrench, and unscrew the shower head by turning the shower head connector counterclockwise with a wrench.
