A treasured handbag
Coach purses and leather goods have a well-deserved reputation for their beauty, durability, style and quality. Naturally they are often imitated, making the task of acquiring a used, damaged Coach bag more complicated, but not impossible. Fortunately, very wealthy customers of Coach occasionally discard a bag that has been slightly damaged, and the savvy collector knows that Coach bags are guaranteed for their lifetime.
Instructions
1. Visit Coach stores, Coach outlets, major department stores and boutiques to become familiar with Coach quality. Examine the leather, the color, the lining, and note that a genuine Coach bag has identification in as many places as possible. Nearly every piece of hardware is embossed with the C. The signature C fabric may be inside or out. Real Coach merchandise is not reluctant to identify itself, and does not depend on paper tags or labels.
2. Search Goodwill boutiques, Salvation Army stores, consignment stores of all kinds including Plato's Closet and Buffalo Exchange for used Coach bags. The more upscale the neighborhood or area of the city, the better the chances of finding Coach. Next, try vintage stores and used-clothing outlets, again paying special attention to affluent areas. Look for Junior League charity stores.
3. Look for Coach bags at auctions, yard and garage sales at posh homes, special-event sales for the benefit of a big church, a school or a playground. Locate such sales in the most affluent neighborhood in town. Pick up the newspaper to look in the classified ads, and check out bulletin boards and community newsletters.
4. Use the Internet to check auction sites, retail sites, craigslist and any other place that claims to have used Coach bags for sale. If the authenticity of the bag cannot be established through photos, it should be avoided. If the bag is too cheap, part of a number of identical bags and comes from an unfamiliar source, avoid it. If an auction site offers a bag that seems genuine, check the site's recommendations and trust it only if it has been endorsed by several customers.
Tips Warnings
Coach stores and outlets never sell damaged goods. In other words, there are no seconds of authentic Coach merchandise. Coach stores do not sell used merchandise because the manufacturer will repair damaged bags and return them to the owner or replace them if they are too badly damaged. Bags that cannot be saved are discarded.
