Using an existing beanie is the quickest way to make a DJ Lance Rock hat.
The energetic character DJ Lance Rock hosts Nickelodeon's kid's television program Yo Gabba Gabba!, and guides viewers through the show's songs, activities, and sing-a-longs. DJ Lance Rock's costume, an orange and white retro-inspired jumpsuit, helped earn the show a 2008 nomination for a Daytime Entertainment Emmy Award in Outstanding Achievement in Costume Design/Styling. Along with this jumpsuit and his black-framed glasses, DJ Lance Rock's hat, an over-sized orange fur beanie with a star affixed, makes the character visually stand out in the show's fantasy world.
Instructions
1. Lay out your fur material on a table. Using the tape measure and fabric marker, begin to measure and draw six equally-sized wedge-shaped patterns on the fabric. The dimensions of these will vary depending on the size of the head the hat will be for, but in general the bottom edge of the wedge should be 3 inches. To find the height of the wedge, use the tape measure to measure the height of your beanie and then add 2 inches.
2. Set two of the wedges next to each other on the table, fur-side down, so that one of their long sides is touching the other wedge's side. Fold the touching sides together and then place pins. Continue to add the additional wedges, using the pins to adhere each wedge to the next, until all of the wedges are connected. This forms the hat.
3. Add fabric glue to the sides that are folded and pinned together, slowly removing the pins as the glue dries.
4. Turn the hat inside out so that the fur is now on the outside and tuck your beanie inside to act as a lining.
5. Cut out a large star shape from each of the sheets of craft foam. Glue the stars together, and then glue to the front-right side of the now completed DJ Lance Rock hat.
