Bathroom Tile/Hall Carpet threshold
Grrrrr... I just moved into a rental condo. I love it, however I'm incapable of looking at my rentals as my home and I always do improvements for the landlords. In this case, It's for ME...I am annoyed that someone would do this. Bathroom tile is almost 1/2 higher than the carpet in the hallway. We've been there 2 weeks and hit our toes NUMEROUS times! Problem a: height of tile Problem b: someone put a metal threshold strip to join the carpet and previous flooring, then tiled the bathroom without taking it up. I know those aren't ridiculously thick, so I can probably nail through it if necessary, it's just stupid. Can someone or everyone give me some ideas make it a better transition from hall to bathroom? May be too difficult to fix it now? Nikki, In a pinch it can be done with a bunch of regular wooden shims that any hardware/lumber store carries. Are you going to do this yourself? Do you have the tools? Kicker? Let the carpet guy take care of it. Jaz first of all, you don't have to laugh at me. second, if you'd like to pay the carpet guy then I'll leave it up to him. I'm on here getting information because I've always done everything for me and my daughter alone on my own, i don't deserve to be laughed at. thanks for the input. Nikki, Sounds like you have a complex, maybe caused by your life experience as you described? This is not the correct forum for that. Now please removed that chip from your shoulders. You misunderstood the That is there to represent my thoughts (and those of thousands of other contractors) when you and any customer of those stores reasonably expects to get advice about the products and services they sell. You know.....You can do it.....we can help. Yea right, when has that happened to most customers? The is an attempt to make fun at them....NOT you or any other customer. That is because those stores on the most part, refuse to hire people that have experience in the trades of the departments they work in. They would rather hire minimum and low wage types and hope they learn a few things. Some do, and most are nice people overall, they just don't know much. As for the carpet shimming. You'll need to remove the carpet and pad, install the shims and then re install pad and carpet. So....do you have a carpet kicker? Would you know use one? OK, yes, you can rent one. Jaz i don't have a chip on my shoulder. if i was a contractor and could shop at places other than those you don't care for honestly I would. I'm glad you replied though, I appreciate you taking the moment to clarify. I did find something at the dreaded HD...and I didn't ask anyone for advice which I usually don't. It's a tile/carpet transition piece that looks pretty simple and just sets in line with the carpet and sort of angle to match up to the tile. I apologize for taking your reply earlier the wrong way...there have been many things that people have said I couldn't do (but I did anyway) and I projected that onto you. And you're right, this isn't the place for it. Anyhoo, I think I'm going to go with that transition thingy, it looks like it'll work and I don't have to become a carpet guy! :-) Thank you, Nikki
