Ideas for fall wedding bouquets
It's interesting:"'It was two days before the wedding and I finally sat down to write my toast. Low and ... Everyone at the wedding said it was the best toast they had ever heard.' ..."
Fall brings visions of changing leaves and vibrant colors, such as various orange, yellow and red. For fall weddings, these colors, or a variation of these colors can be incorporated throughout the wedding to keep with the season. Using various flowers in the bridal bouquets can easily tie a fall theme into your wedding.
Flower Choices
Many flowers are available during the fall, or you can always use silk flowers that look real if your flower of choice is unavailable or too expensive. If you have your heart set on using fresh flowers, check with your local florist to see what is in season and which flowers will "keep" better, or last longer, in your climate. Flowers will vary by region due to different weather conditions. Gerbera daisies, gardenias, calla lilies, dahlias, hydrangeas, camellias and, of course, the most versatile wedding flower, roses, are all available a variety of different hues during the fall season.
Flowers that aren't "in" season, such as orchids can still be used if you choose to go with silk arrangements. Although other colors typically associated with other seasons, such as blue and white, aren't usually seen in fall weddings, you can use them for your wedding if you'd like.
Bright Colors (Oranges and Yellows)
Orange and yellow are prominent fall colors. If you choose to go with these colors, your wedding does not have to look like a bright clown fest, but can be elegant and beautiful by using the right shades, combinations and flowers.
For instance, burnt-orange roses work well with white stephanotis and greenery like woodland ferns. Use white silk ribbon to cover the stems and give the arrangement an elegant, finished look.
Morning or afternoon weddings are perfect for light and bright bouquets. Yellow daisies can be used alone or mixed with yellow and white roses for a fresh look. Mix in greenery and tie a dark green or yellow ribbon around the stems to complete a fall feel.
Orange and white garden dahlias create a full bouquet featuring a softer palate that can be woven into the most elegant or casual wedding with ease.
Combine orange and white calla lilies for a dramatic bouquet. Another option is to use orange calla lilies with white or burnt-orange roses. These bouquets are excellent for evening weddings as they are sophisticated and commanding.
Deep Shades (Red and Brown)
Red roses make beautiful bridal bouquets during any season. However, you can dress them up by adding various shades of red from mauve to burgundy. Use berries and crab apples in a bouquet of red and burgundy roses to complete a classic fall look.
Red and orange dahlias can be paired together, or used separately, in lieu of roses for a cost savings benefit. Add greenery and a few roses in matching colors for more detail.
Full bouquets of deep mauve and maroon roses can be livened up with white camellias or gardenia as filler flowers. Complete the bouquet with mauve or white satin ribbon.
Combine chocolate brown roses with white roses for a sophisticated evening reception. You can add other hues, such as a burnt orange through dresses and ribbons or by adding a few calla lilies into the bouquet.
Other Colors
Deep purple flowers are perfect for later weddings and can also be toned down or mixed with white or even lighter shades of lavender. Hydrangeas are large blooms known for their purple and lavender flowers, however they come in white, blue and light pink as well. Combine the deeper purple shades with white or lighter purple shades for a complimentary bouquet.
Using a combination of all white flowers in your bouquet allows you to brighten your wedding or incorporate typical fall colors in other aspects of your wedding. For example, if you choose a bouquet of white roses, calla lilies, dahlias and gardenias, you can wrap the stems in a burgundy ribbon to match the bridesmaids' burgundy dresses.
White or ivory colored bouquets look sophisticated when you couple them with chocolate brown ribbons. Another option is using chocolate brown roses with white gardenias. Add a deep red or orange to complete this stark palate.
Opt for colors you enjoy. Since you will be looking at your wedding photos for the rest of your life, avoid colors that you do not care for or that do not flatter you or your personal style.
