Enid A. Haupt Conservatory
The 250-acre New York Botanical Garden is home to the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory, a Victorian-style glasshouse that was opened in 1902. This New York landmark features a tropical rainforest filled with ferns, a desert filled with cacti, and different kinds of flowers and plants. View the permanent exhibit, "A World of Plants," where you'll learn about plants from around the world. The Orchid Show and Holiday Train Show, as well as other flower shows and exhibits are held here throughout the year. The Enid A. Haupt Conservatory is open all year.
Steinhardt Conservatory
The Brooklyn Botanic Garden is home to the Steinhardt Conservatory, a greenhouse complex which houses the garden's indoor plant collection. The Aquatic House is where you'll find the garden's orchid collection and aquatic and wet-environment plants from the tropics and subtropics, such as ferns and mosses. The C.V. Starr Bonsai Museum, which, according to the garden, is one of the largest on public display outside Japan, is home to 350 trees. Shrubs, trees, cacti, succulents, and wildflowers from around the world, including Mexico, Peru and Madagascar, are housed in the Desert Pavillion. Walk through the 6,000-square feet Tropical Pavilion, enclosed in glass and where you'll find plants from the Amazon Basin, the African rainforest and tropical East Asia. Trees, shrubs, vines, bulbs, and ground covers from warm-temperature regions such as Australia, New Zealand and East Asia can be seen in the Helen Mattin Warm-Temperate Pavilion. The Steinhardt Conservatory is open from Tuesday through Sunday.
Tioga Gardens
A full-service florist and garden center, Tioga Gardens is home to three indoor greenhouses and to the Tropical Dome Conservatory, an indoor rainforest. The greenhouses are filled with plants and flowers including cacti, African violets, tropical plants, orchids and bonsai. Stroll through the garden and enjoy not only the plants but its fountains and many wind chimes. Walk through decorative arches or relax on one of the benches. Its Tropical Dome Conservatory features exotic plant life, such as Birds of Paradise and Banyan trees, as well as waterfalls and fish ponds. Tioga Gardens is open all year.
The Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Garden
The Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Garden is a conservatory with three glass domes and nine greenhouses which sits on over 11 acres. You'll find similar plants from around the world such as tropical and subtropical regions grouped together and arranged in classic Victorian style. Some of the gardens include Palm Dome, where you'll see palms and tropical fruit trees, and Florida Everglades, which exhibits native habitats, plants and animal species from the region. See exotic orchids, bromeliads and tillandsia varieties in the Panama Cloud Forest & Epiphyte Pavilion, and the largest public ivy collection in the world and herbs and scented geraniums in Victorian Ivy & Herb House. Don't miss out on seeing different species of orchids including cymbidiums, dendrobiums and cattleyas in the Orchid House. The Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens are open daily except Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.
