Making your own wedding invitations is a creative way to personalize your message to friends and family. It also offers a way to control every aspect of the design, as well as the cost of the invitations. Delicate embellishments, such as paper flowers and doves, are tasteful additions to any wedding invitation, and they are easy to make with the right tools.

Things You'll Need

• Card stock
• Clip-art of doves and flowers
• Color photocopy machine or ink jet printer
• Scissors or utility knife
• Glue gun

Instructions

     Find some clip-art of doves and flowers that appeal to you. You can find appropriate images in clip-art books or on the Internet.

     Color-photocopy the clip-art on to the card stock. Use the photocopy machine to enlarge or shrink the image as needed if the clip-art is from a book. If you are using clip-art from the Internet, print the images out on the card stock with an ink jet printer.

     Cut the photocopied doves and flowers out from the card stock using scissors or a utility knife. Be careful to cut closely to the image without cutting into it.

     Decide how you want to place the clip-art on the card. Perhaps you want to have a dove carry a flower in its beak or a dove sitting in a bed of flowers. Position the clip-art accordingly.

     Glue the dove and flower cutouts on to the card using the hot-glue gun.

     Alternatively, you might want the dove to be part of the card, in which case print the clip-art directly on to the card invitation, and then use the utility knife or scissors to cut around the dove’-s beak, making a “-V”- flap. Glue the flower cutout into the bird’-s beak, so that it looks like the dove is carrying the flower.

Tips &- Warnings

• Many art suppliers sell ready-made die-cuts. Check the paper craft section of your local art supply store for die-cut doves and flowers.

• Use letter die-cuts and other die-cut images on your invitation to give it a 3-D look.

• Nail-cutting scissors can help cut the curved parts of the images closely.
