Things You'll Need

  • Hot rollers
  • Alligator-grip hair clips
  • Comb
  • Hot roller clips
  • Hair spray

Instructions

    • 1

Brush your hair to remove tangles and snarls. Hair should be clean and dry.

    • 2

Heat up your hot rollers, removing any hot rolling pins from the case first. Position your rollers close to a mirror where you will work.

    • 3

Clip hair back in sections using large hair clips. Hair clips with alligator grips work best. Use a rat-tail comb to section out the hair, starting at the crown. Pull up and then clip hair from the back of the crown to half in the front of your head.

    • 4

Pull up, and then clip the hair directly in the back of your head.

    • 5

Pull up, and then clip the hair on the left side and then the right side of your head.

    • 6

Clip up the section in the front.

    • 7

Examine your hot rollers. You will notice there may be multiple sizes. Smaller rollers will give tighter curls, larger rolls will give you rounder curls and body. Decide which type of curls you would like and use the appropriate rollers. For a simple everyday look, large rollers work nicely. When the indicator light changes color, your hot rollers are ready for use.

    • 8

Unclip the hair at the back of the head. Separate the hair, making two sections.

    • 9

Comb up the top layer of hair. Select a hot roller and place it at the end of the hair section you have selected.

    • 10

Smooth the ends of the hair and lay the hair on top of the roller. Holding the hair in place, roll the hair up in the roller. Roll the roller up the hair length until it is close to your scalp. Clip the hair in place with a hot roller clip.

    • 11

Grasp the end of the remaining hair in the section. Smooth the ends with your finger or use a comb. Hold the hair in place and roll the roller up the hair. Roll the curler up the hair length until it is close to your scalp. Clip your hair in place with a hot roller clip.

    • 12

Repeat these steps until all hair is rolled. After you roll all your hair, give your entire head a covering of hair spray. Spray just once over your entire head. Keep rollers in your hair for 10 minutes.

    • 13

Remove the hot rollers and replace them in the case. Put the hot roller clips back into place.

    • 14

Turn your head upside down and shake hair gently to loosen curls. Alternatively, use your fingers to arrange curls where you want them. Give a final spray of hair spray.
