Planning a wedding can be time-consuming and stressful. Make wedding planning as simple as possible by creating a checklist for everything that needs to be done -- including the reception -- -from months before the wedding until the actual wedding day. Having every task detailed will make it easier to figure out how much you have to do and how much you can put off until later so you can enjoy your engagement.

If you have a long engagement, you can wait to start on this list - it should be accomplished at least one year before your wedding date. The following items should be included: booking vendors, including your photographer and videographer, caterer, florist and officiant- asking friends and family to be members of your bridal party- determining your wedding colors and choosing bridesmaid dresses- purchasing wedding rings- planning your honeymoon- and purchasing your wedding gown.

      Write down everything that needs to be accomplished six months before the wedding. Included on the list should be choosing the music for your ceremony and reception, finalizing the prenuptial agreement, starting pre-marriage counseling, ordering invitations, signing up for a gift registry and sending your save-the-dates.

      Make a checklist that includes everything that should be accomplished four months before your reception, including sending your wedding announcement to your local newspaper, ordering wedding programs, finding tuxedos for the groomsmen, booking transportation for the wedding day, securing blocks of hotel rooms, choosing a wedding cake and a groom's cake, planning the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner and ordering wedding favors.

      Breakdown the final three months of the wedding. Three months before the wedding, you should discuss the specifics of the ceremony with your officiant- make final changes to the guest list- purchase your toasting glasses, cake knife, garter and guest book as well as bridal party gifts- write your wedding vows and send invitations. Two months before the wedding, your checklist should include having a hair and makeup consultation, getting your wedding license, having a dress fitting, finalizing your plans with vendors, completing name change documents and booking your hotel room for the wedding night. One month before the wedding you'll want to finalize all of the wedding details as well as create a seating chart.

      Detail exactly what you have to do during the hectic weeks before the wedding. You'll need to pick up your wedding gown, have the groomsmen attend a final tuxedo fitting, attend the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner, get a manicure, arrange tip envelopes for your vendors and bring decorations to the reception hall. On the day of your wedding, you'll likely want to have your hair and makeup professionally done and schedule enough time to prepare for the ceremony and reception.
