How to create a disney themed wedding

create a disney themed wedding

It's interesting:
"Just as the happy couple wanted, this is a lovely, small, intimate gathering of close friends and family – so could someone please tell me why I'm here."

Creating your dream wedding can be a big job, especially if you have your heart set on a Disney-themed wedding. There are so many decisions to make. It is possible to "wish upon a star" and get the wedding you have fantasized about for years, if you have a good plan in place to back up those wishes. Follow these tips and you will be well on your way to living "happily ever after."

Instructions

    • 1

Set your budget. Keep in mind all of the details--venue rental fees, dresses and tuxedos, invitations, officiating fees, reception, food, entertainment, thank you cards. If you are concerned about forgetting something, there are many books available at both book stores and libraries. You can always hire a wedding coordinator to help you.

    • 2

Decide which Disney story you want to use for your wedding. “-Sleeping Beauty,“- “-Cinderella,”- “-Lady and the Tramp,”- &#x201C-The Little Mermaid”- and even Mickey and Minnie Mouse are all possibilities. There are many others to choose from so let your imagination run wild when selecting the specific Disney story for your wedding.

    • 3

Select a venue. You don’-t have to go with the obvious castle where many Disney heroines live happily ever after. Remember Sleeping Beauty and Belle first lived in a cottage and so did Snow White, with the Seven Dwarfs. A beach would be lovely if you opted for &#x201C-The Little Mermaid”- theme.

    • 4

Decide on your dress and veil. Study the different Disney books and moves to learn more about what costumes the characters are wearing. You may even want to look into renting a costume dress. Many of the Disney princesses are shown in their wedding attire, such as Cinderella and Ariel. Show them pictures of what the Disney character you want to emulate so they have a specific design to work with. Explain to the bridal shop or seamstress about your theme and listen to their suggestions.

    • 5

Pick the colors. Keeping with the specific theme, they are usually delicate colors such as pinks, soft yellows and blues. If have selected a darker Disney story as your theme, choose accordingly.

    • 6

Select the bridesmaid and flower girl dresses. Keep in mind your theme and their body types. They should not match exactly, but they should look good together. If possible, have your bridesmaid help select their dresses. It is also nice if they are something that can be altered so they can be worn later. Offer to pay to have the floor length dress altered to be tea-length or shorter so they can enjoy the dress more than once.

    • 7

Select the tuxedos or suits. Keep in mind the Disney theme and the men’-s body types. A white tie ensemble looks regal and would remind you that your handsome prince awaits. Whatever you choose, have the groom wear something equally reminiscent of a prince.

    • 8

Choose your flowers. Keep in mind the dresses, colors, and venue you have already selected. They can be as elegant as you like, such as roses and orchids. If you choose the “-cottage in the woods”- look, wildflowers and daisies are lovely as bouquets and centerpieces. Speak with your florist about your theme and ask for suggestions.

    • 9

Select the wedding cake. Wedding cakes come in many flavors so pick the one you love the most, and have it decorated in fresh flowers or lace. If you are following a specific Disney princess theme, there are exquisite figurines available of the princess dancing with her prince that would make a breathtaking cake topper and tie the Disney theme all together.

    • 10

Decide on the type of decorations you want. Ribbons, lace, organza and flowers are usually great choices. If you chose the Snow White theme, bowls of apples would make great centerpieces. If &#x201C-The Little Mermaid”- is what you have your heart set on, consider having sea shells as centerpieces.

    • 11

Pick the menu for the reception. It can be formal or picnic-style, depending on your wedding and your wishes. Remember that just because you had a formal wedding, you do not have to have a formal reception. This is your wedding so do it your way. Serving a meal is not necessary, but it is the norm for an evening wedding. Fancy finger foods such as crustless sandwiches and vegetables cut into little shapes are nice for afternoon weddings.

    • 12

Decide on the entertainment. Hiring a band or DJ are possibilities. You can always opt for soft music playing in the background. Most of the classic Disney movies have an instrumental soundtrack available that could be integrated into the music. The soundtrack from “-Fantasia”- has wonderful music on it as well.

    • 13

Select the transportation. A horse-drawn carriage is the perfect romantic transportation for a Disney themed wedding. If you can’-t find one, a white Mustang convertible would be a fun and funky twist for you and your handsome prince to make a getaway.
