Belle Isle is a 2.5 mile long, 985 acre island park that is lodged in the center of the Detroit River close to the U.S.-Canada border. Officially designed during the beginning of the 20th century, Belle Isle has served as a recreational social center for over 100 years. The isle features the Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory, fountains, wilderness trails, a Coast Guard station, a municipal golf course, a zoo, a beachfront swimming area and a events center.
