You can probably remember your own wedding date, but it's not likely you'll be able to retain the memory of wedding dates of your friends and family members. Fortunately, there are various ways to search for marriage dates online and in various print sources. Finding a marriage date can be a helpful step in completing a family history and keeping track of anniversary dates.

      Find the marriage records for the individual you're looking for. According to Geneaology.com, you'll need to know the full name of the bride (including maiden name) or groom, the year of marriage, and the state or county where the wedding took place. If you know the state, search online for the state's vital records department. Contact this department to learn find the marriage record you're looking for.

      Find an old wedding announcement. Go to a local library and look for the Ayer Directory of Newspapers and Periodicals. This directory will lead to the owners of the newspaper edition (likely a library) in which the wedding announcement was published. Find the owner of the newspaper and request a copy.

      Search for the marriage date in church records. If you know the church where the individual was married (provided the individual got married in a church), ask the church for help finding the record. Otherwise, go to a local library. Look in a reference book such as The Handbook of American Denominations or The Yearbook of American and Canadian Churches. Look up the name of the church and the book should list who currently has the church records.

      Do an online search on a directory site such as marriagerecords.org or ancestry.com. Marriage Records is not associated with the government and combines several sources of data.
