Ideas for a lighthouse wedding

Ideas for a lighthouse wedding

It's interesting:
"Best man speech writing put this challenge into sharp relief: You are not a professional comedian (at least we don't think you are), but everyone at that wedding ..."

Lighthouses make an attractive theme for weddings. Host a wedding ceremony or reception at a working lighthouse for a breathtaking venue. But if holding the event at a real lighthouse isn't possible or practical, consider using the lighthouse as the central wedding theme. Include the image of a lighthouse in wedding invitations, decorations, cake, favors and other aspects of the wedding decor.

  1. Invitations

    • Create a lighthouse-themed wedding invitation to give guests a glimpse of the theme. Make a simple, yet elegant invitation utilizing a lighthouse silhouette image. Create an invitation with a word processor or graphic art program. Put a simple silhouette image of a lighthouse on the top of the invitation. These images can be found in clip art collections. Add wedding details and print the invitations. Cut the invitations and mount them on card stock in wedding colors.

Another way to create a lighthouse-themed invitation is to use a word processor to create the text and then add a rubber stamp image of a lighthouse or a lighthouse sticker to embellish the invitation.

    Decorations

    • Make the lighthouse theme evident in church and reception decorations. Choose a color scheme that supports a lighthouse theme. A palette of blues and sandy brown works well with a lighthouse theme. Use a lighthouse image on the wedding programs.

Carry the lighthouse theme into reception decorations. Use lighthouse candle holders as centerpieces. Surround the centerpieces with flowers in wedding colors, or spread a handful of sand around the base and scatter some shells on top of the sand. Create a visual focal point for the room. Draw, cut out and paint a lighthouse image on foam board to use as a wall decoration. Use a flashing light at the top of the lighthouse.

    Cake

    • Create a lighthouse-shaped wedding cake to use at a lighthouse-themed wedding. Find a baker who can create a lighthouse by stacking layers of cake and sculpting them into a lighthouse shape. Add some fiber optic lights at the top to serve as the light, or use flowers as a topper.

Another way to carry out the lighthouse theme on a wedding cake is to use a lighthouse cake topper on a traditional, stacked wedding cake. You can buy a lighthouse topper at a wedding supply store or create your own with balsa wood.

    Favors and Other Ideas

    • Carry the lighthouse theme into every aspect of the wedding, including the favors. Have an artist paint a picture of a lighthouse, and reproduce the painting to create souvenir postcards for the guests. You can also frame copies of the painting to give as gifts or use the image on a magnet for guests to use on their refrigerators. Other favor ideas include lighthouse-shaped soap or a truffle box filled with chocolates and sealed with a lighthouse sticker.

Create thank you notes in keeping with a lighthouse theme. If the invitation or wedding program featured a lighthouse image, use the same image for the thank you notes for continuity. You can also choose to use a photo of the bride and groom in front of a lighthouse in a thank you note to guests.
