Marie antoinette mardi gras party ideas

Marie antoinette mardi gras party ideas

It's interesting:
"I would like to say that I have a lot of admiration for Linda. She met Paul during his ‘colt’ years, and has dealt with most of his flaws. She’s a beautiful lady, and an even more gorgeous bride. I hope Paul realizes just how lucky he is. But I still don’t know how he got her to say yes because all she seems to say now is “No! Paul, no!”"

Marie Antoinette and Mardi Gras have one element in common: both are known for their excess. Combining the two themes for an indulgent party. Decorations, food, cakes and party favors can add to the ambiance.

Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Decorations

    • Traditional Mardi Gras colors are gold, purple and green. Drape rich fabric swatches in layers over tables, including the food buffet table. String lights in trees and along ceilings. Place large candelabras in the center of tables and drape with Mardi Gras beads, pooling them around the bottom. Draw large masks on white sheets or butcher paper for wall decorations.

    Games and Activities

    • Dance to French music: Marie Antoinette's favorite composers included Gluck, Dussek, Gretry and Haydn. Have a hair and make-up station for guests to make themselves over in the French fashion of the time. Very pale makeup and high teased hair piled on the top of the head were the style. Hold a hair and make-up contest. Black velvet beauty spots to hide imperfections were popular, and they became bigger and decoratively shaped as more people began to wear them. Providing velvet and adhesive for a beauty spot contest.

    Food Ideas

    • Food is another area in which tradition and excess are welcomed. Cheese platters, fruit platters, sliced cold meats and sliced baguettes on silver serving trays are a good start. Place some on cake stands or covered boxes to add height and depth to the food table. Add a chocolate fountain surrounded by piles of marshmallows or cake pieces for a decadent experience. Serve French wine or "Marie Antoinettes," an alcoholic drink made with strong coffee, brandy, coffee liqueur and whipping cream.

    Cake Ideas

    • Serve a traditional King Cake, an oval coffee cake with white glaze and colored sugar on top. These cakes can be filled with nuts and cinnamon, fruit fillings or cream cheese. Layered cakes can be made with the comedy and tragedy masks frosted on top, or serve individual cupcakes with molded chocolate masks on lollipop sticks stuck into each one. Chocolate candy melts, available at most craft stores, come in yellow, purple or gold and can have flavors added to them when melted.

    Party Favors

    • Give your guests traditional Mardi Gras souvenirs. Feathered masks are a great party favor, as are feathered boas. Beaded necklace can be purchased in a variety of styles including with star-shaped beads, crowns, mini disco balls and even light-up jesters hanging from them.
