Master electricians, also known as senior electricians, are experienced professionals in the fields of inspecting, installing, repairing, modifying and maintaining electrical and electronic systems, equipment and circuits. Electricians often start their way up as apprentices to existing electricians and through experience and certification can become master electricians. Electricians are needed in diverse fields such as the motion picture and video industry and in the construction of nonresidential buildings.
Salary Range
According to Salary Wizard, the average salary for a master electrician was $52,319 per year as of April 2011. The middle 50 percent of master electricians earned between $46,754 and $59,821. The bottom 10 percent of master electricians earned a salary lower than $41,689 and the top 10 percent earned a salary of above $66,651.
Location
Master electricians tended to earn more money in larger cities according to a report compiled by Salary Expert as of April 2011. Of the 10 cities surveyed, the top two cities for a master electrician salary-wise were New York City and Chicago with average salaries of $57,494 and $56,816, respectively. The bottom two of the 10 cities surveyed for a master electrician's salary were Orlando, Florida, and Charlotte, North Carolina, with $29,276 and $31,362 respectively. The average salary for the other cities surveyed from low to high were Dallas, Texas, with $33,685; Atlanta, Georgia, with $33,906; Miami, Florida, with $34,317; Houston, Texas, with $35,347; Phoenix, Arizona, with $36,850 and Boston, Massachusetts, with $45,632.

The salary of a master electrician compared favorably with other electrician positions as of April 2011, according to Salary Wizard. Entry-level electricians earned an average salary of $42,517 per year. Intermediate electricians earned an annual base salary of $49,086. Electricians who specifically work on aircrafts earned a median annual base salary of $42,822. Electricians who specialize in the installation and repair of elevators earned a higher salary than master electricians with a median national salary of $64,289.
Industry
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, electricians in general earned a median national salary of $47,180 as of May 2009. The highest paying industry for electricians was the motion picture and video industry with an annual mean wage of $75,550. The next two highest paying industries were the accounting, tax preparation, bookkeeping and payroll services industry, and the natural gas distribution industry, with average salaries of $70,480 and $70,440, respectively. The highest levels of employment for electricians are found in the building equipment contractors' field with 419,470 employees and an annual mean wage of $50,520 as of May 2009.
