Requirements
Entry into the field of surgical technologist requires formal postsecondary education. As of April 2011, the Commission on the Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs had approved programs at five schools in New York City's five boroughs. Active, accredited certificate programs were found at NYU Langhorne Medical Center in Manhattan and the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center and Long Island University in Brooklyn. An approved, two-year associate program was offered at Kingsborough Community College in Brooklyn. The Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center also had an accredited certificate program in surgical technology, but the program was inactive.
