Program A Nissan Xterra Key Fob

Most modern vehicles allow you to lock and unlock the doors using a remote key fob, provided the vehicle has power locks. If you purchased a secondary remote key fob or replacement for you Nissan Xterra, you have to program it before you can use it. Fortunately, you can program the remote key fob yourself within a few minutes using nothing more than the remote key fob and the Xterra ignition key.


Instructions


1. Sit in the Nissan Xterra with the key and key fob. Shut all doors and press the automatic lock switch to lock the door.


2. Place the key in the ignition and remove it completely six times in a row within a 10-second time frame to enter Programming mode. The hazard lights will flash confirming that Programming mode is active.


3. Place the key in the ignition again and switch the ignition to ACC.


4. Press one of the buttons on the key fob to program the remote. Note that you must press the button within five seconds of inserting the key in the ignition the final time. The hazard lights will flash, indicating programming was successful.


5. Unlock the doors with the automatic lock switch on the Nissan Xterra and press any button on any additional key fobs you wish to program. The hazard lights will flash to indicate programming was successful. Note that you must perform this within five seconds of programming the previous key fob. Repeat this step with as many key fobs as you need to program.


6. Switch the ignition to Off and remove the key.


7. Lock and unlock the doors using the programmed key fobs to verify they work correctly.


Tips Warnings


Programming an additional key fob causes any previously programmed key fob to lose its programming. Follow the procedure in Step 5 to program multiple key fobs.
