Shopping for a wedding gown can prove to be a costly and stressful experience if you are not prepared. Before you hit the bridal salons, spend some time making a list of everything you will need to bring with you when trying on dresses. Also, adding notes with your preferences and requirements for a dress to the list can prove very helpful.
Does this Spark an idea?
Undergarments and Shoes
When planning for your big day, start with accessories first. The shoes and undergarments you will wear on your wedding day should be on your list of things to bring on your gown shopping excursion. Dresses fit differently with various undergarments, and the shoes will help determine if the dress you select requires hemming. Without these items, you may find yourself caught with an ill-fitting gown too close to the nuptials to perform any necessary alterations.
Accessories
More detailed accessories, such as a necklace, earrings, tiara or veil, also are helpful to add to your list before trying on gowns. A piece of important “-must wear”- jewelry may not complement the style of dress you hoped to purchase. Large necklaces and earrings work well with simple, form-fitting dresses but can look overpowering on a ball gown. Likewise, subtle jewelry and thin veils may look out of place on a more modern gown but serve a large, princess-style dress well.
Photographs
There are so many different styles of wedding gowns currently available that many brides may feel overwhelmed or unsure of what will look best on them. Note on your list to bring photographs, magazine clippings and any other visual aids that may help you narrow down your choices. Sometimes just showing these visuals to a dress shop associate will provide you with the opportunity to see some gowns you love but never would have thought to select for yourself. You also may wish to jot down style preferences and price ranges on your list. Simple margin notes like “-full skirt,”- “-fingertip veil”- and “-rhinestone bodice”- can give a boutique employee a lot to work from when she is showing you dresses.
Snacks
It may sound odd for a wedding dress shopping list, but write down snacks as a must-have item. You’-ll run out the door without them in the hustle and bustle of dress shopping day, but it is important to have a hydrated and happy body while shopping. Packing water bottles and quick munchies like granola bars or crackers will keep your mind fresh, your body moving and your mood boosted. Dehydration can cause water retention, which may affect a dress fitting, and low blood sugar can cause a grumpy outlook that can influence your purchasing decisions. Remember to include some for your shopping companions as well.
