Types of contemporary christian weddings

Weddings are an important phase in the relationship between a couple and the god they believe in. If they wish to put their own twist on a wedding, then they may choose to dispense with the elements they consider to be non-essential, such as a large number of guests or being married in a church. The core of a Christian wedding is the exchange of rings and vows in the presence of a clergyman. Traditional Christian weddings take place in church. All that take place in other locations are contemporary on some level.

1. Church Weddings

   • Although many contemporary weddings do not follow the tradition exactly, getting married in a church is still a common type of contemporary Christian wedding. Elements such as writing your own vows, and having modern, engraved wedding rings all give a traditional church wedding a more contemporary twist.

   Outdoor Weddings

   • Weddings can be hosted outside, arranged in a garden or on an ornamental lawn. These are still officiated by clergy and can follow traditional Christian rites, although are located in a non-religious setting. This is often the case when a family wishes to host a wedding, or when a particular area has certain sentimental meaning to the couple getting married.

   Beach Weddings

   • As with outdoor weddings, many Christian couples are choosing to get married on beaches, in weddings officiated by clergy. Weddings such as these can take place either on a beach near home, or abroad. In many tourist destinations, such as the Caribbean, the Maldives or the Seychelles, couples can get married on the beach owned by the hotel, with hotel-provided clergy.

   Small Weddings

   • Weddings do not have to be large, with many extended family members. Many Christian couples are forsaking this in favor of a more intimate wedding with close family only. A small wedding is also a less expensive option if you are working on a budget.
