Biblical wedding themes

Biblical wedding themes

It's interesting:
"Kick things off with a topical wedding-themed icebreaker, as this will show everybody that you've been thinking about the speech right up to the last minute."

Couples who have a strong faith in God may want to include a biblical theme for their wedding. The Bible is full of passages about love's importance, Jesus' love for everyone, and how people should love others. Many biblical stories and passages can be incorporated into a wedding theme. Religious couples particularly can appreciate entwining their faith -- and biblical role models -- so intimately with their wedding and reception.

  1. Garden of Eden

    • Incorporate the biblical story of Adam and Eve -- the first man and woman created by God -- and the Garden of Eden from Genesis 1. God made Eve for Adam, which can symbolize how some couples feel that they were made for each other. Utilize greenery and fill the wedding and reception venues with silk plants and silk flowers. Buy or rent silk plants for the occasion- alternatively, ask friends if you can borrow theirs. Use tropical decor for the reception hall. Use tropical flowers -- such as red gingers or heliconias -- as a cake topper for the wedding cake.

    Noah's Ark

    • God instructed Noah to build an ark to save himself, his family and two of every animal from the great flood. Noah's ark can be used as a wedding theme because Noah paired off male and female animals of every type. This concept of pairs can be translated into a wedding theme and symbolized by showing two of several species. A wedding invitation can feature a pair of giraffes with their necks twisted together in an embrace. The wedding program can feature a pair of lovebirds fluttering around each other. Use light blue table linens to represent the water and use ark centerpieces.

    Love's Attributes

    • The Bible says a lot about the subject of love. In 1 Corinthians 13: 4-13, God lays out the definition and attributes of love. Use this scripture passage as a theme for your wedding. Have the scripture read at your wedding ceremony and used it in your wedding program. For the reception, name each table after a different aspect of love denoted in the chapter. For instance, name one table "Love is Kind" and another, "Love is Patient." Have the best man write a speech about how the couple has demonstrated and continues to strive to show these attributes.

    Biblical Couples

    • The Bible records several relationships, including Abraham and Sarah's noteworthy love story: After many years of devoted marriage but no children, God gave them a son, Isaac. Isaac's son, Jacob, had to work hard -- literally -- to marry his bride- Rachel's father required Jacob to give manual labor to receive permission for his daughter's hand. Jacob gladly did it because he loved her so much. Choose a theme that encompasses these relationships' themes -- love as patient or love as worthy -- or choose a general Bible theme. Decorate the reception hall to resemble a biblical town with palm trees. Draw silhouettes of houses and buildings from biblical times and cut them out. Attach them to the wall of the reception area as decorations.
