    • Sea World San Diego consistently takes one of the top spots in top ten lists of San Diego attractions. This animal-themed amusement park is the original Sea World and features a number of exhibits to let visitors get up close to marine life. Go World Travel's website states that 20,000 animals live within Sea World. Most notably, Shamu the killer whale calls Sea World San Diego home.

    San Diego Zoo

    • Located within Balboa Park, San Diego Zoo features a host of animal exhibits, as well as an expansive botanical collection. The zoo has the distinction of housing the largest amount of giant pandas outside of China. The website San Diego Getaway states that the zoo has more than 4,000 animals to view in habitats that bear as close a resemblance to natural homelands as possible.

    Balboa Park

    • The City of San Diego website states that Balboa Park is one of the largest cultural and entertainment complexes in the US. Balboa Park features fifteen museums, gardens, arts centers, restaurants and the San Diego Zoo. Some attractions within the park include the Japanese Friendship Garden, San Diego Air and Space Museum, Timken Museum of Art and the San Diego Museum of Man.

    • A stop by the beach ranks high on visitors' to do lists when coming to San Diego. One of the most popular beach destinations is La Jolla Cove. La Jolla features a number of beaches for surfing, swimming and viewing the sunset. San Diego's city website notes that La Jolla's clear waters make it a prime destination for snorkelers wanting to explore underwater.

    • Legoland may seem like a place only young children can enjoy, but people of all ages head to Legoland for a day of fun. The park celebrates the Lego, a building block toy many children enjoy worldwide. Within Legoland, over 5,000 Lego models stand tall. The park also features interactive exhibits, rides and special shows.

    Old Town

    • Once the city center of San Diego, Old Town preserves some of California's earliest history. The Spanish heritage of California is featured prominently within Old Town. This area of San Diego features numerous shops, restaurants and activities for visitors. National Geographic's travel website mentions tours of Old Town available daily and free.

    Gaslamp Quarter

    • Like Old Town, the Gaslamp Quarter acts as a throwback to early California history. The Gaslamp Quarter features Victorian architecture, art galleries, shopping and nightclubs for adult visitors. Most buildings within Gaslamp Quarter, as noted on the website Go World Travel, were built between 1873 and 1930. During Mardi Gras, the Gaslamp Quarter hosts a number of festivities to celebrate.

    Birch Aquarium

    • Birch Aquarium was opened by the Scripps Institution of Oceanography to both educate the public on marine life and further their oceanography research. This aquarium features over 60 different habitats within. Visitors can experience some hands-on exhibits to get even closer to marine life.
