Visitors spend over a billion dollars annually on tourism in North Carolina, according to Infoplease.com. Some specific North Carolin destinations are popular for photography, including gardens, waterfalls, lakes and zoos. These places are in different parts of North Carolina.

  1. Duke Gardens

    • Duke Gardens, near Durham is a public garden that covers almost 60 acres of land. It's right in the middle of the Duke University Campus. It has a vast range of flowers, trees, plants and wildlife, and is a scenic place if you are interested in landscape photography.

    Lazy 5 Ranch

    • Lazy 5 Ranch is in Moorseville. It's a safari where you can either take your car through the trail or ride on a horse-drawn wagon with your camera. Turn up your camera's shutter speed while going through the trail as you will meet a lot of animals in action.

    Rainbow Falls

    • Rainbow Falls, located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, is one of the four waterfalls on a two-mile stretch of river. It's a 150-foot tall waterfall, located 53 miles from downtown Asheville. According to Romantic Asheville, Rainbow Falls is particularly impressive after rainy weather. You can photograph from the front, bottom, side and top of the falls for different views.

    Turtleback Falls

    • Turtleback Falls is a popular swimming and sliding spot when the water is at low levels. It's also a good place for photography. When you go there, walk about half a mile to the left of the trail fork, where you will reach "Drift Falls," which is on private property. At the end of the trail, you get a great view of these falls. Make sure you don't go past the "Do not Enter" sign.

    Lake Lure

    • Lake Lure is a popular tourist destination located in western North Carolina, east of Asheville. According to Town of Lake Lure website, National Geographics has called Lake Lure one of the most beautiful man-made lakes in the world. The lake is spread over 720 acres with a sparkling clean beach area.
