Themes for a motherdaughter tea

Themes for a mother-daughter tea

It's interesting:
"To both sets of parents * To the bride groom * For being chosen as best man. Congratulatory remarks about the wedding. Beautiful bride * Wonderful occasion ..."

Often held by churches or local community centers, a mother-daughter tea is a lovely way to bring together families and female relatives for an afternoon of tea, food and celebration. But incorporating a theme into the mother-daughter tea can bring a more profound dimension or an added element of fun to the event.

Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Girl Power

    • A girl power theme for a mother-daughter tea can take the form of an entertaining celebration of womanhood. Ask participants to dress like their favorite female role models, whether an athlete, a scientist or a movie star. Have a trivia contest about women's achievements. Encourage participants to talk about the good things about being a woman and why they are glad to be women.

    Family Ties

    • Have a family ties theme that emphasizes the strong bonds of family. Ask participants to bring food, pot-luck style, using recipes that have been passed down in the family. Encourage participants to discuss what they have learned from their families and previous generations. Have participants wear items that belong to another family member, such as a hat, a brooch or a pair of gloves.

    Springtime

    • Springtime is a light-hearted theme for a mother-daughter tea. Have participants wear floral hats or pin flowers in their hair, and dress in light and colorful springtime colors. Serve seasonal fruits and egg dishes. Afterward, you could also have a treasure hunt or a candy-filled piñ-ata for the kids.

    Victorian Era

    • Make your mother-daughter tea a Victorian one for some old-fashioned spirit. Go to the library and find authentic Victorian recipes for tea foods. Have programs or placecards printed with Victorian drawings. Ask participants to dress up in Victorian inspired clothes, complete with gloves, and then have a multi-generational fashion show. Teach and play some simple Victorian card games.

    Women Helping Women

    • Have a mother-daughter tea as a socially-conscious event. Fundraise for a woman's charity such as a battered women's shelter or a breast cancer research foundation. Encourage participants to discuss how other women have helped them in their life. Hold a raffle to benefit the charity for a nice tea set or another donated item.

    Being a Christian Woman

    • Have a mother-daughter tea celebrating Christian women. Tell stories about Biblical women. Distribute sheets of information about different women in the Bible. Encourage participants to share what their faith has meant to them. Lead the mothers and daughters in a prayer to pray for mothers and daughters everywhere.
