Clothing etiquette for a courthouse wedding

Clothing etiquette for a courthouse wedding

It's interesting:
"Linda and I first met about 18 months ago, when it quickly became clear to me that here was a woman of many attributes - beauty, brains, wisdom and, fortunately for Paul, a disarming love for dumb animals."

Planning your wedding is one of those special times in your life. You want everything to look perfect and you want to look your best. If you're planning a courthouse wedding, you might wonder what the clothing etiquette is and how you should dress for the occasion. You actually have a number of options- you can choose something that reflects who you are and it will be perfectly appropriate for the wedding.

  1. Courthouse Wedding Etiquette

    • A courthouse wedding is a brief ceremony. You'll need to sign a few documents and present witnesses, and you are allowed to have guests. There's no strict etiquette on how you need to be dressed for this event. Obviously, like any public place, you need to be dressed appropriately- don't wear short shorts, revealing tank tops, or swim suits (and shirts and shoes are required). This leaves you with plenty of ways to be creative with your clothing and have fun with the wedding.

    Retro Chic

    • If you've never been one to daydream about wearing a white wedding dress, you can wear any color to your wedding. Consider choosing a dress that reflects your personality. If you love vintage clothing, search for a fantastic retro dress, a small net veil, and a pair of peep toe heels. You can find these items at local thrift shops or Etsy.com.

    Pants

    • Not a girly girl? Consider wearing a suit. You can opt for a white or black suit- the combination of a tailored blazer, crisp button-up shirt and fitted trousers can be very sexy, especially if you add in some high heels and red lipstick. The beauty of the courthouse wedding is you have the option to wear what represents you- just make sure to coordinate with your groom.

    Jeans?

    • If you wanted to be super casual, you have the option of dressing in jeans and a t-shirt, but you might consider how that will look in your pictures. Will you regret that you didn't choose to dress up on your special day? If you decide casual is for you, wear a pair of dark trouser jeans and a sparkly shirt...and make sure that your guests know it's a super casual affair so they don't dress to the nines.

    The White Dress

    • If you always pictured yourself getting married in a beautiful white dress, then consider wearing one for your courthouse wedding. Many women wear wedding dresses during this type of ceremony. Just because the wedding isn't held in a garden or church doesn't mean you have to give up your dreams of that Cinderella ball gown.
