A Badger 1 garbage disposal can be a real convenience to have in the kitchen. Being able to easily grind up food wastes can make it easier to clean up after meals. But sometimes the Badger 1 can stop working. The Badger 1 is equipped with an overload switch so that if it gets jammed, it will shut down so the motor doesn't burn up. Sometimes something can get stuck in the cutters and prevent it from turning. Whatever the problem, the disposal may be able to be fixed without calling a plumber.
Instructions
1. Turn the switch off that controls the Badger 1.
2. Locate the reset button on the underneath of the Badger 1 and press it in. Hold it for 15 seconds. Turn on the switch to the Badger1 to see if it works after resetting it.
3. Insert the wrench that came with the Badger 1 into the nut in the bottom of the unit. If the wrench that came with the unit can not be located, a large Allen wrench that fits the nut will work.
4. Turn the wrench, which will turn the mechanism inside the Badger and may free it from its jam. Try to run the Badger 1 again and see if it runs properly.
5. Unplug the Badger 1 from the outlet under the sink. Use a flat-head screwdriver to fish around the edges inside the drain part where the cutters are. Try to dislodge anything that may be stuck and preventing it from running. Plug it back in and try it.
