word wedding reception invitations
It's interesting:"Henry told me he's had a little upgrade in time for his wedding night. ... Gillian Simon's wedding has been better attended than this year's Liberal ..."
Wedding reception invitations can definitely stump you when it comes to figuring out what you want to say. It's hard to condense your feelings while avoiding cliches and still getting the vital information into your invitations.
Instructions
1
Consider your event. Is it a separate event from your wedding? If so, think about the reception itself. Is it a formal or informal event? What kind of crowd will be invited? Is it a large gathering? Or will just a few friends be there? A formal reception invitation would be a good place to use phrases like "We invite you to celebrate the union of..." or "Your presence is requested," whereas a more informal event could do something like "Matt and Elizabeth want you to help celebrate their love." The latter sounds more personal and would also work well for smaller events.
2
If the reception immediately follows the marriage ceremony, appropriate invitation language would be: "Please join us for a reception following the wedding at..." and the location, along with directions from the wedding to the reception location.
3
"Please join us for dinner, drinks and dancing following the ceremony" will also suffice if the event is in the same place as the event.
4
Include details of the wedding itself if the reception is a separate event altogether. "Matt and Stephanie exchanged vows on May 14, 2008. Please join us in a celebration of their love on May 21, 2008" along with the event information would be a good approach. "The wedding was lovely. Now we'd like to celebrate with you" is a more casual approach as well.
5
If the reception is a separate event altogether on a date different from the wedding, let guests know the time, date and place of your reception. Make sure to add style of dress, registry and RSVP information to an invitation for a wedding reception after the fact.
