How to make a snowflake for a cake decoration

make a snowflake for a cake decoration

It's interesting:
"Humorous wedding observations ... Traditional outfits * Scottish dress * Marquee * Wedding venue (golf club, castle, barn, posh) * Wedding location ..."

Decorating a cake is a lot of fun, but it can be very difficult to create a freehand design on the top. Using the steps below, you can trace a snowflake design on your cake with parchment paper and piping gel. This technique will help ensure that your lines are straight and your snowflake looks delicious.

Add this to my Recipe Box.

Things You'll Need

  • Parchment paper
  • Iced cake
  • Piping gel
  • Pastry bag
  • Wilton decorating tips No. 1 and No. 16
  • Snowflake design
  • Pink food coloring
  • Small paintbrush

Instructions

    • 1

Fill the pastry bag with piping gel. If your cake is decorated with white icing, you might want to add a little pink food coloring to the piping gel first.

    • 2

Lay a piece of parchment paper over the snowflake design. Trace the design with the piping gel using Wilton decorating tip No. 1 (see Resources).

    • 3

Flip the parchment paper over on top of your cake. Lightly press down on the piping gel using a small paintbrush. Remove the parchment paper.

    • 4

Trace the snowflake design using the color of icing you want in a pastry bag. If you want to trace it and fill it in using stars, use Wilton decorating tip No. 16.

    • 5

Add embellishments to your cake like a border that matches the color of the snowflake.
