How to design your own engagement invitations

design your own engagement invitations

It's interesting:
"Linda’s been the driving factor when it came to planning this wedding, and Linda, it was perfect! All your hard work paid off, and I must say I’m honoured to be part of the only 5 minutes that you didn’t get to plan!"

You have decided to share the news of your engagement with family and friends by throwing a party to celebrate the occasion. Creating homemade invitations to the event is one way to personalize the occasion. Creativity and imagination can help to set the theme or tone of the event. Adding touches to the event that are special for the bride- and groom-to-be can help make the occasion as special as it can be.

Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • Designer printer paper
  • Picture of the engaged couple

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase decorative printer paper that has a pattern or wedding theme to add an extra element to your invitation. Plain printer paper can be used for this, however designer paper will make the invitation more interesting and help to create a theme for the event.

    • 2

Create the body of the invitation by typing a document with your computer's word processor. Include information such as the names of the couple, location, date, time and host information for response purposes. Begin the invitation with a heading that announces the occasion. This can be something traditional like, "Engagement party for (add the names of the couple)," or a fun title such as "They are making it official". This section can also include any themes for the occasion, such as a costume ball where guests come dressed as their favorite married couple from history or stage and screen or a cocktail party where attire is formal.

    • 3

Add design elements to the invitation by utilizing a clip art feature or website. Most programs have various photos and decorative clip art pictures that will enhance the invitation. You can search for pictures that will work well with a theme that was chosen or something that is special to the couple. Personalize the invitation by adding a recent picture of the couple or the couple's proposal story. If you are not the bride- or groom-to-be, ask the couple for permission to add personal details to the invitation or for suggestions.

Add the selected paper to the printer and print the number of copies that are needed. Print a few extra copies in case extra guests are added to the invitation list.
