Simple wedding checklist

Simple wedding checklist

It's interesting:
"That said, nobody wants the wedding party to go straight from the reception to the divorce courts, so your humour will need to be pitched just right. You want ..."

Planning your wedding is something that should excite and invigorate you. Unfortunately trying to keep track of all the details can leave you stressed and agitated about your big day. Stay organized and create a checklist with a timeline to keep you on top of every last detail without worry.

  1. Nine Months Prior

    • Give yourself nine months from when you set your wedding date to the actual wedding to choose a location, time and officiant for the ceremony. This is the time to talk to your family about how the wedding will be financed and determine a budget for the event, which will affect the number of people invited and how lavish the decorations are. Once you have a date and a budget, reserve the location for the ceremony and reception. Choose a photographer, videographer and caterer and reserve them for your big day. These are the people who book quickly, so get them as soon as you can. Choose the wedding party at this time so they can assist you with the remainder of the plans.

    Four Months Prior

    • Four months before you wedding day, choose your gown and meet with a seamstress if necessary to make or tailor it. Have your bridesmaids help select their dress style. Create a guest list with your groom and respective families. While it doesn't need to be finalized, you should start to compile the names of those who you want to share your special day. Design the invitations and order these along with any stationary for engagement or wedding present thank you notes.

Take some time with your groom to discuss honeymoon options. This may be something he wants to tackle on his own. If he does, check it off your list and trust he will show you the time of your life. Register for gifts together and talk to your groom and his family about plans for the rehearsal dinner.

    Six Weeks Prior

    • Around six weeks before the event, send out invitations and place a wedding announcement in local papers. Meet with your hairstylist about a special 'do on your wedding day along with a make-up artist who can highlight the glow you will already have. Your groom and groomsmen should have their tuxedos chosen and the rings should be engraved. Check with your local state clerk to see what requirements are necessary for a marriage license. Investigate local hotels and inns to provide out-of-town guests information for lodging.

    A Few Days Prior

    • Confirm with the location and all vendors that everything is in order. Provide the caterer with final numbers and write out all the payments. Prepare your honeymoon bag as well as an emergency wedding day kit that contains all the must haves in case of wardrobe malfunctions. This should have pantyhose, headache medicine and basic sewing supplies. Give your attendants their gifts at the rehearsal dinner. Enjoy the moment!
