Wedding gifts for mormons

Wedding gifts for mormons

It's interesting:
"This wedding really couldn't come at a better time for anyone. Gary will probably be bald by this time next year. And Annabelle's just found out that ..."

Mormon weddings are very different from other traditional church weddings. Choosing a wedding gift for a Mormon couple outside of typical wedding gifts can be a challenge, especially for someone who is not familiar with the Mormon -- also called Latter-Day Saints, or LDS -- religion. In addition to the couple's registry, you can also give a Mormon-related gift.

  1. Subscriptions

    • The Mormon Church has several publications available to subscribers. The Ensign is a monthly magazine that offers support to adult members of the Mormon Church, along with testimonials and passages from Mormon prophets for support in the faith. Church News is another subscription for Mormon families. This publication keeps members updated on church happenings, along with articles to help members understand more about their religion and faith. These subscriptions are a welcome addition to any Mormon household.

    LDS Hymn Book

    • An LDS hymnbook brings the hymns from temple services to a couple's home. Often, Mormon hymns are used in meetings. When a couple owns a hymnbook, they will more easily be able to follow along. Even if the couple already owns an LDS hymnbook, these books do change over time. The most recent copy gives the bride and groom a new hymnbook to begin their new life together.

    Engraved Plaque

    • An engraved plaque commemorates the couple's special day. The plaque is engraved with the couple's names, the date of the wedding, the name of the temple and the city and state. A picture of the temple can also be engraved onto the plaque. In the Mormon religion, a couple is married during this life and for eternity. A saying that symbolizes this eternal unity can also be included. A picture of the couple is placed behind a plastic protective cover to further personalize the plaque.

    Collectible Plates

    • Collectible plates picture the temples across the United States on the front. The Mormon church founder is also a popular image on a collectible plate. Purchase a plate picturing the temple in which the couple got married reminds the couple of their special day. Plates are trimmed in gold and are numbered on the backs. Each plate comes with its own certificate of authenticity.

    Registry Gifts

    • Choosing a gift from the couple's registry is never the wrong thing to do, especially if you are not familiar with the Mormon religion. Most couples make their registry based on their needs. Within the Mormon religion, couples are prohibited from living together prior to the marriage. Therefore, Mormon couples typically need more household items than the average couple. Pay careful attention to the registry and choose items from it to ensure the couple gets exactly what they want.
