How to measure for a wedding garter

measure for a wedding garter

It's interesting:
"It was 48 hours before the wedding and I had zero best man speech made. 2 hours after I found your site I had logged off with an excellent speech.' Luke Betts ..."

Many American brides wear two garters, one to toss and one as a keepsake for the new husband. Garters play a part in wedding tradition because of the garter toss, when the groom removes his wife's garter and tosses it into a crowd of unmarried men. Legend has it that whoever catches the garter will be the next to marry. Measure your leg prior to ordering your garter to ensure the garter will fit.

Things You'll Need

  • Flexible tape measure
  • String or yarn
  • Ruler or yardstick
  • Paper and pen (optional)

Instructions

    • 1

Wrap a flexible measuring tape around your thigh where you plan to wear your garters. Garters are typically worn about 3 inches above the knee.

    • 2

Look at the number where the measuring tape overlaps itself. This is the size of your thigh, which will guide you in knowing what size garter you'll need. Write it down if necessary.

    • 3

Use a piece of string or yarn if you don't have a flexible measuring tape. Wrap the string around your thigh and mark the spot where it overlaps. Lay this flat on a ruler or yardstick to determine the size you'll need.
