How to make a gift basket for outoftowners coming to your wedding

make a gift basket for out-of-towners coming to your wedding

It's interesting:
"Best man speech writing put this challenge into sharp relief: You are not a professional comedian (at least we don't think you are), but everyone at that wedding ..."

When you are preparing for a wedding, a nice gesture to think about is preparing a token of thanks for guests that are coming from out of town. This might include a gift basket that includes thoughtful items that might make their stay away from home easier, more comfortable or more enjoyable. The ideas are endless, so you should customize your welcome basket with items that express the theme of your wedding and the personality of the newlyweds.

Things You'll Need

  • Gift basket or bag
  • Decorative tissue paper
  • Small containers of bottled water or other beverages
  • Maps and travel guides of the area
  • Handy directions to and from the ceremony and reception
  • Sample toiletries, such as toothpaste, soap, shampoo and lotion
  • Snacks, such as granola bars, fruit, cookies or cheese and crackers
  • To-do list for kids, or small activities for kids
  • An item that represents the area or theme of the wedding
  • Cellophane gift basket bag
  • A bow
  • A postcard or thank you card

Instructions

    • 1

Prepare the basket by placing decorative tissue paper on the bottom of the basket.

    • 2

Place the items that are larger on the bottom of the basket toward the back. If there are items in a box or in a bottle, such as bottled drinks, they should also go on the bottom along the side or in the back. Place other, more delicate items on top, such as fruit. Arrange the smaller items throughout the basket so that the basket looks fuller and symmetrical. Do not hide items or cover items completely as much as possible.

    • 3

Place cellophane wrap over the basket, twist the top of the loose cellophane together and tie the bow around the cellophane wrap at the top to decorate the top and enclose the items.

    • 4

Write a thank you note on your card or postcard. Tape this on the top of the basket.

Tips &- Warnings

  • Arrange with the hotel to leave your baskets at the front desk of the hotel where your guests are staying, so they can receive their basket when they check in.

  • You can customize your basket to include items that you think your guests will enjoy or need. Depending on the location, you can make your basket special, thoughtful and fun to create!
